The helix plate closure test consists of supporting the helix on a five-point fixture and applying load by pushing or pulling (whichever is appropriate) on the central shaft or hub until failure occurs. Welded Helix Shaft Joint Torsion Test
The torsion test for welded helix-shaft joints consists of restraining the leading edge of the helix with an appropriately shaped block and applying torque to the anchor or pile shaft. The free (non-driven) end of the shaft shall be guided to resist axial and lateral movement without resisting rotation. The middle of the shaft may also be guided to resist lateral movement provided the guide does not resist rotation. This test is not normally conducted for helical anchors or piles with shaft diameters exceeding 4.5" because their torsional capacities have been shown to consistently exceed requirements by a large margin.
